About FreeTabletWithEBT.net

I’m Arthur Patch, and this is an independent guide to free and low-cost tablet programs for households on EBT, SNAP, Medicaid and other assistance. I am not a government agency, I am not a carrier, and I cannot approve anyone for anything. What I can do is explain how these programs actually work, in language that assumes you have better things to do than read federal rulemaking.

Who writes this

I spent most of my working life as an office administrator in Buffalo, New York. In 2019 I was laid off, and for the first time I was on the receiving end of the assistance system instead of filing paperwork about it.

What I ran into was a strange split. The official sources — the FCC, USAC, my own state’s pages — were accurate and close to unreadable, written for people who already knew the vocabulary. The sites that explained things in plain English were readable and frequently wrong, still describing rules that had changed and programs that had closed. Getting a straight answer meant going to the statute myself and then translating it into something a person could act on.

I have been doing that translation ever since. This site is the guide I could not find in 2019: the federal rules, checked against the primary documents, written the way I would explain them to someone sitting across a kitchen table.

Why this site exists

Search for a free government tablet and you will find hundreds of pages saying the same four things, half of them two years out of date. Plenty still advertise the ACP, a program that closed in June 2024. Most are written to earn a commission rather than to answer a question.

The people running that search are, almost by definition, people who cannot afford to lose an afternoon to bad instructions or a hundred dollars to a scam. I would rather tell you a tablet costs eleven dollars than let you find that out at checkout, and rather tell you a program has closed than keep you clicking through pages that pretend it hasn’t.

How I check things

  • Primary sources first. Program rules come from the FCC, USAC and the Code of Federal Regulations — not from other websites repeating each other.
  • I say when I do not know. Provider stock changes weekly and nobody can track it reliably, so I tell you how to check rather than inventing a number.
  • Every page is dated and reviewed quarterly. In a subject where the rules change annually, an undated page is a warning sign.
  • No provider pays to be listed. Ranking is not for sale here.

The full standard, including how I handle corrections, is set out in the editorial policy.

How the site is funded

It isn’t. This site earns nothing. There is no advertising on it, there are no affiliate or commission links in it, and no provider has paid or can pay for placement, for ranking, or for a kind word.

I am saying it this plainly because it is the first question you should ask of any site that recommends a company to you, and because most sites in this corner of the internet will not answer it. If that ever changes — if I add advertising, or a link that pays me a commission — this page will say so before the page that earns the money does.

What I cannot do for you

  • I am not affiliated with the FCC, USAC, or any government agency
  • I am not a carrier and cannot enroll you, approve you or ship you a device
  • I cannot check your application status — only your provider or the National Verifier can
  • I will never ask for your Social Security number, EBT card details, or any payment

If you need to reach the program itself, the numbers are on the contact page. Questions, corrections and complaints go to the same place, and I read all of them.
